RARE Craftique Historic Reproduction Mahogany Block Front Goddard Chest

  
No Maine Deliveries north of Bangor Maine. No Deliveries to the Florida Keys. We are please to offer this very unusual and rare Craftique Historic Reproduction mahogany block front Goddard Chest. We have searched every way we can think of and cannot find a photo of a similar piece.

It was acquired from the personal collection of the owner of one of Charlotte's high end furniture stores that closed in Charlotte a number of years ago. Unlike most Craftique furniture that is marked with a cloth label, this one has a metal shell shaped identification inside that says Craftique Historic Reproduction and appears to be individually numbered. This one is numbered 032.

In an article about the history of Pulaski furniture, we did find this very interesting write-up, but cannot find any photos. In keeping with the company's nostalgic, ornate furniture design, PFC (Pulaski Furniture) acquired Craftique, Inc. Of Mebane, North Carolina in 1988. Based on this description, we believe this is either the referred to copy, or one of the copies, as the article made no mention of how many were made. In any case we feel this is a very rare piece.

The chest features a solid mahogany case, with Oak as a secondary wood on the drawer sides. It is a wonderfully detailed, with ornately carved shells on the top drawer with intricate fretwork surrounding the shells. This fretwork seems to be unique to this piece. Many companies have produced block front chest, but we have seen no others with this detail. There are fluted columns on the front corners, and very nice ogee feet and stepped up base.

The top drawer has brass drop pulls. The lower 3 drawers have solid brass Chippendale style pulls, as well ad functional locks. Although not perfect, this is an exceptional piece. We have done nothing to hide any flaws, but it would not take much to bring this piece to very fine condition. 38" wide at the top, 38-1/2" at the feet.
