GEORGE II STYLE CARVED MAHOGANY FRETWORK LIBRARY TABLE. English, circa 20th century; unmarked Item # 905CQD12Z. A beautiful 20th century console table crafted in the manner of the George II forms, it is crafted entirely out of thick solid mahogany planks and finished in a polished deep ruby hue.
The top is simple with a glowing patina and vibrant color. The apron is elaborate with a pierced fretwork around all sides and is raised by square columns. These are carved with great complexity from single thick posts of mahogany to lighten the form by creating transparency through the columns and skirting. Despite the center material having been removed, the legs are incredibly strong with repeating X-braces integral in the column and terminate over squared molded integral feet.
A powerful form, it is a very fine acquisition for the center of a hall, for placement behind the sofa in a large living room, as a functional reading table and as a console against the wall. Measurements: 54" W x 30" D x 29 5/8 H. Condition Report: Gorgeous deep ruby surface. Two spots of marring to the surface (two areas with four very faint points in a square, probably where a pair of vases sat for a long period of time). Thin seam visible down the center where boards come together.
Minor scuffs and abrasions to the surface. My name is Andrew Silla and my wife and I own and operate Silla, ltd in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. You can read more about our gallery by clicking here.
